Abstract
This study aims to improve students’ poetry writing skills through the application of direct object observation techniques in class X of SMA Negeri 1 Moro’o. The research employed Classroom Action Research (CAR) consisting of two cycles: planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The subjects were 30 students. Data were collected through observation, tests, and documentation, and analyzed using descriptive qualitative and quantitative approaches. The findings indicate that students’ poetry writing skills in Cycle I were still low and did not meet the Minimum Mastery Criteria (MMC). Students experienced difficulties in generating ideas, selecting appropriate diction, and organizing poetic structures. Learning motivation and participation were also relatively low. Improvements implemented in Cycle II, including more intensive guidance, interactive discussions, and optimized use of direct observation techniques, resulted in significant progress. Students demonstrated better ability in developing ideas, using expressive diction, and composing structured poems. In addition, their engagement and confidence in writing increased. Overall, the results show that the direct object observation technique effectively enhances students’ poetry writing skills and creates a more meaningful and engaging learning process. This approach enables students to connect real experiences with creative expression in writing.
