Abstract

This study aims to analyse spelling errors in official documents used in village offices in border areas as a form of official documentation that reflects the professionalism of government administration. This study uses a qualitative descriptive approach with document analysis methods. Data was obtained through a study of official documents and supported by a literature study sourced from scientific journals, language books, and official documents related to Indonesian language rules. Data collection techniques were carried out through the identification, classification, and recording of forms of spelling errors, punctuation, and sentence structure based on the General Guidelines for Indonesian Spelling (PUEBI). The collected data were analysed qualitatively by describing the types and patterns of errors found and interpreting their impact on the clarity and effectiveness of administrative communication. The results showed that linguistic errors, particularly in spelling, punctuation, and sentence structure, were still frequently found in official documents and had the potential to reduce the quality of communication and the professional image of the institution. These findings emphasise the importance of the language competence of village officials in supporting effective and accountable public services
